East Coast Trip 2024 - September 26

September 26: Today we joined Nola, Serena and Kara at Maxine's for lunch, then we took a brief walking tour of Old Town Bastrop. We wanted to visit the Bastrop Museum but it is closed for renovation. We did, however, get to see a vintage fire truck. We returned "home" and enjoyed a quiet time for the remainder of the day. The office at the campground has 2 of the cutest kittens who were adopted together and are best buddies. They behave just like our Lucky and not afraid of humans at all.

September 25: Drove to Bastrop, TX, to visit with my second cousin and we'll be here for 5 nights. We met Nola and daughter, Kara, for dinner. Weather is a bit cooler, still hot and not as humid as we have been experiencing. We're staying at Basin RV Park which is located parallel with a freeway so we have constant vehicle noise. At the end of the property is the Texas Colorado River and a nice dog park that Sunny enjoys.

September 21: Stayed at I-10 Kamp Ground, Theodore, AL.  It's another hot and humid day. Our goal is to reach Conroe, TX.  September 22: Drove from Theodore, AL, through Baton Rouge along the Breaux Bridge and stopped at Frog City Campground, Duson, LA. Each of the roads in the campground used "frog" in the name. We were next to a truck stop fueling station so it was a bit noisy overnight. It was a nice place nonetheless.  September 23: Stayed at Peaceful Pines RV Park, Conroe, TX. Took a short nap and drove to visit Mary Ross. Enjoyed a delicious home cooked meal and spent time catching up. Sunny came with us and she enjoyed running around in the back yard.  September 24: Staying at Peaceful Pines another night. We made a Costco run, Mary came to the RV park and drove us to, and joined us for a Mexican dinner. We enjoyed her company once again and she hung around the RV for awhile.

September 20: Our night at the Country Inn & Suites was okay, no frills but clean. We had to check out of the hotel by 11 am so we went to the Tallahassee Automobile Museum. It was amazing. DeVoe L. Moore is the owner and founder of the museum and he has been a collector since he was 9. It was amazing the variety of items Mr. Moore collected. If you're interested in reading more, here's the website: https://tacm.com/. We still had time to kill, so we stopped in at the Barnes & Noble on the way back and enjoyed a cool drink before picking up the pets. We finally picked up the RV at about 5 pm and got back on the road for about 30 miles before stopping for the night at Flat Creek Family Campground in Chattahoochee, FL.

East Coast Trip 2024 - September 16 - 19

September 16: Today was much the same as yesterday - hurry up and wait. Weather is much the same, hot, humid, cloudy, and light rain. Because we've stayed here for so long and are closing in, albeit slowly, to our departure from Tallahassee, I've decided to combine a few days because I'm so far behind. September 17: Today we look forward to tomorrow when our RV will go into the shop to be repaired. It took nearly 2 weeks to get all the "ducks" in a row - it's not just a transmission, it's other components that need to be obtained in order to repair our RV to get us on the road. It will be a "new and improved" transmission that is supposed to improve the overall performance. We will be boarding the animals because we will need to be in a hotel for one night and most hotels only allow 2 animals and some only small dogs. Those that allow pets charge exorbitant prices per dog, per day, on top of a cleaning fee. Yikes, so much for being "pet frie...

September 15: Today the weather is nice and we chose to drive to the coast, St. Mark's National Wildlife Refuge, in particular. It was about an hour away and we chose to take both dogs. It was a hot muggy day and the bugs were out in full force. Situated along the Apalachee Bay coast is St. Mark's Lighthouse. There is much to tell about this lighthouse which is too much to write about here, so here's a link that will give that information: https://www.stmarksrefuge.org/lh-history. We took a walk along the Lighthouse Trail and were greeted by at least 4 species of butterflies, and a whole lot of biting bugs. We were told about several other wildlife that live in the refuge but the timing was bad. Animals are smart, they find a nice place out of the sun to sleep and not pay any attention to visitors. 😉  The day was nice so we got a few nice pictures to share. I took some pictures of the (recreated) residence and it's hard to believe there was a family of 10 living in a 4...
