East Coast Trip 2024 - July 5

July 5: Today was a busy one. We chose to drive into Bar Harbor instead of taking one of the free buses and enjoyed being a tourist. Settled in 1763, it was incorporated in 1796 as Eden; the present name (for Bar Island in the main harbor) was adopted in 1918. Most of the town was destroyed by fire in 1947. Rebuilt Bar Harbor is the center of a popular resort area verging on Acadia National Park and is a port of entry. According to the 2022 census the population of Bar Harbor is under 5,200 however, today it seemed as though there was a population explosion - the town was crowded and it seemed as though every parking spot was taken - even though it cost $4 an hour to park anywhere. It was well worth it. There was a cruise ship in the bay so I'm sure that helped the chaos. We noticed a schooner in the bay and was able to book a seats for a sail later in the day. On our way back to town, we stopped for a lobster salad roll, which by the way, is not on a roll but on 2 pieces of white bread shaped into an open roll. 🙂 By the end of the day, however, the fog rolled in and the temperature dropped. The sail was cold and quite damp because of the fog, but it was enjoyable. We took Sunny with us - quite an experience for her.

Mexico 2025 - Day 19

March 27: The alarm clocks were off and it was good to wake up with no specific plans in place except to visit with friends. It was a hot day in Yuma so the ACs were running all day in the RV. We spent a quiet day relaxing with our friends. I had prepared a few meals for the freezer for our trip, and we had one of my ground beef and vegetable "stoups" - not a stew or a soup, but a combination of both - with some delicious warm sourdough bread and garlic butter. Ice cream was for dessert, thanks to our gracious hosts.

Mexico 2025 - Day 15

March 23: We hit the road again today this was the longest day on the road - 233 miles on 2-lane, narrow, potholed roads from Bahia de los Angeles to Vicente Guerrero. We left before 8:30 am and arrived at our next stop at nearly 6 pm. We did stop for a "bio" breaks and lunch. It was a tough day especially for our solo camper. She had to do everything on her own. We took pictures along the way of wild horses and the beautiful mountainous scenery. When we arrived, we all got ourselves situated and then went to the campground's restaurant, Posada Don Diego, for cocktails (more Margaritas) and dinner which was all part of our tour package. We all had made meal choices before we left the US which we didn't remember, so our chosen meal was a nice surprise. There wasn't much socializing that evening after dinner because we were all very tired.

East Coast Trip 2024 - October 8

October 8: Balloon Fiesta departure day. It has been an amazing time at the Fiesta. We have met some wonderful folks from all over the US, as is usual on a FRVT. We enjoyed the balloons again but they were flying in full force. It was hard to leave the park(ing lot) because this was the very best day we had for balloons. They were everywhere. We packed up our stuff, hitched up the Jeep and were on our way. We made a reservation with Harvest Host at a museum at the south entrance to the Petrified Forest National Park and arrived at about 3:30 pm. We settled in, enjoyed a meal then toured the museum and, of course, found something to buy. We were able to get a site with 30 amp power so we could run an AC.
