East Coast Trip 2024 - July 20

July 20: Today is travel day and we had another short distance to our next campground near Halifax and Alan drove. Woodhaven RV park is set in a beautiful, wooded area close to a main thoroughfare. After we settled onto our site, we drove to Peggy's Cove Lighthouse, NS. Peggy's Cove is a small rural community located on the eastern shore of St. Margaret's Bay and was established in 1868. We wondered around the lighthouse just like tourists and took many pictures. The tide was on the low side so many of the massive rocks were exposed. On the road towards the lighthouse, there is a memorial to Swissair Flight 111 which crashed into St. Margaret's Bay on Sept. 2, 1998. It crashed approximately 5 miles southwest of Peggy's Cove with the loss of all 229 aboard. The cove became one of the staging areas for first responders. It was a moving memorial. When we returned to camp, we were treated to a meal prepared by our Wagonmasters and Tailgunners, shrimp and pasta with Alfredo sauce, spinach strawberry salad and dessert. It was nice to not have to think about what to make for a meal.
