East Coast Trip 2024 - July 16

July 16: Day two in Parkers Cove, NS. A bus tour including Fort Anne National Historic Site and Port Royal Historic Site. As I mentioned yesterday, the Acadians have had a presence in Nova Scotia for centuries. Nova Scotia has a rich and varied history involving the Scotland, France and the England. We were given a long presentation at Port Anne and to do it justice, here is the link to more information that I can put in my post. (https://parks.canada.ca/lhn-nhs/ns/fortanne/culture/histoire-history#Introduction) 4 tapestries were created retelling the history over 400 years. The tapestries speak about stories of arrival and settlement, peaceful alliance and military conflict, social change and community pride. The physical setting is the tie that binds this tapestry together - a visual narrative of events and milestones that have shaped the history of Fort Anne and the surrounding area. I have included many pictures. We then had lunch at a German Bakery (and restaurant) which served either bratwurst, sauerkraut and potato salad or schnitzel, coleslaw and potato salad. Alan had the bratwurst and I had the schnitzel but we swapped the sauerkraut and coleslaw. It was a good lunch. Afterwards we headed to Port Royal which is a reconstruction (to scale and building style) built (started in 1939) of a "habitation"  or compound which existed in the early 1600s. It housed Frenchmen brought over to trade furs with the locals (the Mi'kmaq) and beaver furs were the most valuable - they were needed for the making of hats popular at the time.

March 27: The alarm clocks were off and it was good to wake up with no specific plans in place except to visit with friends. It was a hot day in Yuma so the ACs were running all day in the RV. We spent a quiet day relaxing with our friends. I had prepared a few meals for the freezer for our trip, and we had one of my ground beef and vegetable "stoups" - not a stew or a soup, but a combination of both - with some delicious warm sourdough bread and garlic butter. Ice cream was for dessert, thanks to our gracious hosts.

Mexico 2025 - Day 15

March 23: We hit the road again today this was the longest day on the road - 233 miles on 2-lane, narrow, potholed roads from Bahia de los Angeles to Vicente Guerrero. We left before 8:30 am and arrived at our next stop at nearly 6 pm. We did stop for a "bio" breaks and lunch. It was a tough day especially for our solo camper. She had to do everything on her own. We took pictures along the way of wild horses and the beautiful mountainous scenery. When we arrived, we all got ourselves situated and then went to the campground's restaurant, Posada Don Diego, for cocktails (more Margaritas) and dinner which was all part of our tour package. We all had made meal choices before we left the US which we didn't remember, so our chosen meal was a nice surprise. There wasn't much socializing that evening after dinner because we were all very tired.

East Coast Trip 2024 - October 8

October 8: Balloon Fiesta departure day. It has been an amazing time at the Fiesta. We have met some wonderful folks from all over the US, as is usual on a FRVT. We enjoyed the balloons again but they were flying in full force. It was hard to leave the park(ing lot) because this was the very best day we had for balloons. They were everywhere. We packed up our stuff, hitched up the Jeep and were on our way. We made a reservation with Harvest Host at a museum at the south entrance to the Petrified Forest National Park and arrived at about 3:30 pm. We settled in, enjoyed a meal then toured the museum and, of course, found something to buy. We were able to get a site with 30 amp power so we could run an AC.
