August 22: We enjoyed our overnight stay in NY - it was in a beautiful setting but we set our sights on Gettysburg being our next stay. We got out as fast as we could and traveled the 260 or so miles without too much delay. On this trip we've seen road repair slow downs, lane closures, roads reduced to one lane with flagmen/flagwomen/traffic light controls, and just plain bad roads. We decided yesterday, that our travels through the Yukon and Alaska corner the market for bad roads. Our vehicles are performing well, thank you Lord! On our way on the I-83 to Gettysburg, we crossed the Susquehanna River near Harrisburg, PA, and saw the remains of what appear to be old bridges. We are staying at a Thousand Trails campground in Gettysburg, PA, until the 26th.   

August 21: We headed out of Middleborough, MA, at a time that seemed to be our usual and traveled about 200 miles to the KOA in Willkill, NY. The trip wasn't out of the ordinary and our fur babies were their usual selves. We are extremely fortunate in that the dogs do not require multiple potty stops along the way, just their owners... 😉. Most highways have rest stops but when you travel through small towns it can be difficult even to find a fuel stop with sufficient space to park our rig and toad (aka towed vehicle). Many fuel stations in these towns can't even accommodate our rig at their pumps. We've learned to take advantage of highway off ramps offering a truck stop close by. We spent a quiet evening in and rested up for the next day of travel.  

August 20: This is our last full day in Massachusetts and we will leave tomorrow. Today we ventured to Boston. We drove a few minutes to a commuter rail station and we took the hour-long train into Boston with the goal of taking Hop-On, Hop-Off Trolley Tour. We purchased tickets for the tour and found the bus stop. There were 14 stops where we could hop off but chose to mostly stay on the bus because the tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and entertaining. To us west coast folks, it was very interesting to see the many different styles of residential buildings built during different time periods. We did get off and tour the SS Constitution and that was amazing, especially when you think how many folks it took to sail such a vessel. The weather cooperated today - no rain - and the temperature stayed in the mid to low 70s. After we came home we decided to find a Thai restaurant and found a nice one.

August 19: We were hoping to visit Boston today but the weather had other ideas, rain was in the forecast for Boston. So we ventured to Plymouth instead and what a day we had. It was only about half an hour away and we visited The Rock and heard the stories about it. It has quite a history which I can only offer a link to Wikipedia's article (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plymouth_Rock). We walked onto the Mayflower II which is the replica of the Mayflower and it was interesting to see what kind of conditions existed for the pilgrims when they traveled across the "pond" from England (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mayflower_II). Then we took a guided tour, just Alan and I, from a small company using an electric vehicle as the means of travel. The guide was amazing and gave us a phenomenal historical tour of the city.
